High School Counselors

Guiding your students through the next phase of their academic career

As a counselor, you have a very important job. You’re advising students on big decisions, and we’ve gathered all the information you need to tell students about Loyola University New Orleans.

What Your Students Need to Know

Loyola University New Orleans is the place where students discover their strengths and talents and obtain an education that challenges them to develop both their head and their heart. With its Jesuit roots, a Loyola education will motivate students to be the most they can be and to seek the “magis”— Latin for “the more”—in the person they become.

Our 11:1 student-to-professor ratio allows for small, personalized discussion-oriented classes and the U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks Loyola in the top 10 regional universities in the South and among the top 25 universities in the nation for service learning.

We encourage students to reach out to their specific admissions counselor throughout the application process with any questions they may have.

Application Standards

At Loyola, each student is treated as an individual with individual needs and strengths. In reviewing your application, the Office of Admissions makes a decision based on several factors:

Academic Performance

Loyola seeks students who have challenged themselves academically. While honors, advanced, AP and IB courses are highly encouraged; they are not required for admission into the university.

Academic Credit and Placement

Information about academic credit received through Advance Placement or examination, academic credit transferred to Loyola from another institution, or student placement in courses through exam scores can be found here.

Standardized Tests

There are no minimum test score requirements for admission. The highest SAT critical reading and SAT math scores from separate exams if you take the test multiple times; however, ACT scores will not be superscored. Loyola has a test-optional admissions process. For more information on this, please review our Test-Optional FAQs.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Loyola offers as many scholarships as there are students. For freshman and transfer students, scholarships are based on outstanding academic achievement and significant community involvement. Learn more about a variety of tools for your students to finance their education.

College of Music and Media Applicants

The College of Music and Media is home to over 20 unique majors and degree programs within the arts, advertising, and entertainment industries. An audition, interview and/or portfolio review is required for admission to the college. Review our audition and interview requirements. Please contact Kayla Mejia at kmmejia@tif2005.com with any questions about auditions, campus visits, or your student's application.

Admitted Students

When your student is admitted into Loyola, they will need to formally accept Loyola’s offer by paying the enrollment deposit by MAY 1. They will also need to sign up for New Student Orientation, which takes places during the summer before they start at Loyola. Visit our First Year Students checklist for more information about joining the Wolf Pack.

New students on campusVisit Campus

We invite and encourage college, guidance, and independent counselors as well as community-based professionals to visit us. We have individual tour reservations available for students that are able to travel to New Orleans. For counselors and students that are not able to visit in person, check out our virtual tour options. We’d love to talk with you, so please reach out to the admissions counselor assigned to your area.

After you’ve visited, encourage your students to visit in person during one of our on-campus tours. It is the perfect way for them to get a feel of the campus, see students at work and learn more about Loyola.
